Discovering Bulgarian Rock | Щурците (The Crickets) In this video, we continue our series exploring Bulgarian music with one of the country’s most important and influential bands — Щурците (The Crickets). Formed in Sofia in the late 1960s, Щурците were pioneers of Bulgarian rock, helping shape a sound that blended Western influences with deeply poetic and thoughtful songwriting. Over the decades, their music evolved from classic rock into more progressive and atmospheric styles. Albums like XX век (20th Century) became defining works of the time, with songs that spoke powerfully to an entire generation. In this episode, we talk about their place in Bulgarian music history, the atmosphere around their songs. This series is our way of learning more about the culture we live in and sharing the music that has shaped it. We’re a Welsh-Kiwi family living in a small village in Northern Bulgaria. After visiting and falling in love with the country, we bought our home in 2019 and moved here full time in 2023.
