I went in September, so the first few days were quite hot. But once we got onto the Baltoro Glacier, the temperature was perfect for long daily treks of 7-8 hours. The weather was on our side, too—we only had about 30 minutes of rain the whole time. We experienced a magical snowfall one night at Concordia camp, and then a day later, we were greeted with glorious sunshine at K2 Base Camp. How hard is it? This is a non-technical 14-day trek that covers 178 km / 110 miles with 4,111 m / 13,487 ft of gain. While the start is easy, the Baltoro Glacier is extremely rugged. At altitudes over 4,000 m / 13,123 ft, it gets difficult to breathe, nights are cold, and I had some minor digestive issues. I consider myself an active person, though not an elite athlete. I did not train specifically for this trek, but I did mountain bike several times and a couple of hikes in the two months prior to departure. How did your body handle the altitude? My adaptation to the altitude was good, and I experienced no issues. This was partly due to the relatively gradual ascent and the fact that we included an acclimatization day, spending two nights in Paju. Did you use a guide? For this adventure, I trusted the amazing team at Apricot Tours. They supplied everything we needed: a great guide, 22 porters, a team of cooks, 10 mules, all our food, and even 4 chickens and a goat! Did you like Pakistani food? Pakistani cuisine is superb—I absolutely loved it! That said, there's a noticeable difference between the meals I had in Islamabad and Skardu and the food provided during the trek itself. The trek food was good, served in very generous portions, but was understandably a bit repetitive. #pakistan #karakoram #k2 #k2basecamp #trekking #hiking
