Adalaj Stepwell or Rudabai Stepwell is a stepwell located in the village of Adalaj, close to Gandhinagar city, gujarat. It was built in 1498 by Rana Veer Singh of Vaghela dynasty. It is a fine example of Indian architecture work. It is five storied deep well, but before this project could be completed, Rana Veer Singh's kingdom was attacked by Mohammed Begda the Muslim ruler of neighboring state Ahmedabad. As he was deeply enamoured of the Veer Singh's queen Rudabai or Rupbai’s beauty. The king was finished in battle, and Begda proposed queen to marry him. Rupbai agreed to marriage proposal on the condition that he would first complete the building of this stepwell. After completion of this stepwell queen Rupbai jumped in to the well and ended her life. The tombs of six masons who built the well are seen near the Vav. All masons lives were ended by begada, as he was so impressed by the architectural excellence of the step well that he did not want a replica to be built. Excellent carving of sand stone...must visit place in Gujarat… #adalajstepwell#gujarattourism#adalajvav
