From the cold loam of Finnic underground materialises “Ikuisuuden Kaipuu”, a debut that does not seem as an introduction but more as a slow unveiling of a long-contained spirit. Forged by members of Kurjuus and Saastunut, and a new memeber breathing life into its new contours, the record gathers familiar dialects of despair and reshapes them into a singular, inward-facing lament. It is an album that moves deliberately, as if each texture were being weighed against eternity before allowed to exist. At its core lies a restrained form of black metal, deliberately thinned of excess fury, its edges softened but never dulled. This lower austerity allows other textures to seep through the cracks, folk-tinged harmonies that recall distant, ambient or heavy metal transitions, faint psychedelic hues that warp perception rather than overwhelm it and, most strikingly, a neoclassical piano presence that drifts through the album as pale winter light through a frost-blurred window, not seeking grandeur but lending the music a sense of mournful poise and fatalistic glamour. Guitars hover in a grey mist, neither fully suffocating nor entirely clear, while the rhythmic section unfolds with an inconstant pace. Clean vocals surface at times, fragile and almost hesitant, only to be pierced by distorted outcries that carry the familiar derangement associated with Kurjuus and Harhaoppisten Ylipapitar. These harsher voicals do not merely rage, they fracture and embody a psyche caught between numb resignation and corrosive spite. Nonetheless, the album also constantly descends into a depressive undertow, slowly sanding down hope into something blunt and unrecognisable. Even when the music ascends briefly, it does so with the awareness that descent is utterly inevitable, circling themes of spiritual exhaustion, warped longing or even the quiet violence of existing within a world that offers no genuine absolution. It is despair rendered not as spectacle, but as a lived, suffocating condition, fierce and undeniably organic. Despite its composite concept, “Ikuisuuden Kaipuu” never seems fragmented, it resembles instead a carefully assembled reliquary, drawn from various creative paths, arranged with intent and reverence, where each influence dissolves into the next until what remains is a cohesive, deeply personal statement, unified by its yearning and its devotion to blackness.
