The city of Dumat Al-Jandal is home to the historic military stronghold known as Marid Castle. It was first mentioned in the third century A.D. when Palmyra's queen Zenobia attacked Dumat Al-Jandal and Tayma but was unable to take the castle. Certain Roman and Nabataean ceramics from the first and second centuries A.D. were discovered during excavations conducted in the castle's basement in 1976. In each of the fortress's four corners are four conical towers. The towers of the castle were constructed with bricks for the upper stories and stone for the foundations. There is an open passageway all around the castle, with the exception of the northwest. At the end of the passageway to the east, there is a 34-meter-deep stone well with a diameter of about 70 centimeters. Near the castle, there are many ancient Antiques, mainly Omar ibn Al-Khattab mosque.
