On July 23, 2019 a tornado touched down briefly in Yarmouth, MA on Cape Cod, before heading east to Harwich and causing widespread damage to trees, homes and cars. The National Weather Service confirmed it was a "strong" F1 tornado with 110 mph winds. There was little warning for homeowners and vacationers who filled the Cape to capacity on a warm summer day. As the storm approached my Harwich home around noontime, the skies suddenly lightened. I wondered if the twister had weakened or turned away from Harwich, however within a few moments, the upper level winds picked up quickly and the rain came from all directions. I took a video out the eastern window of my living room, as the tornado approached. The weather service states it touched down, one mile north of my yard, at 12:21 pm, which is about the time I abandoned my post at the window to go to the center of the house. That's when two large trees came down. The astonishing news is, there were no reported injuries to anyone on the Cape from this storm.
