The duo-tone technique, also known as 'cerusing', utilizes texture and colour to create a unique effect on ring-porous wood species. Douglas fir, oak, and ash are some great examples. Using Osmo Wood Wax Finish allows you to create a visually striking, yet durable effect. The process is relatively simple: 1. Wire-brush your wood species of choice (either by hand or with a wire brush machine). This removes the softer earlywood, and leaves a heavily textured surface. 2 Apply your desired base-coat of Wood Wax Finish using a stiff, high quality brush. Apply thinly, and allow 8-12 hours to dry. 3. Apply your top coat using a different colour of Wood Wax Finish in a similar method, ensuring to work the product into all the crevices of the textured wood. 4. While the top coat is wet, remove it by using an Osmo rubber scraper. This will remove the wet second coat off of the high-grain, exposing the base coat colour underneath. The second coat colour stays in the low-grain. 5. Allow the piece to dry for 8-12 hours. With Wood Wax Finish, no top-coat is required, as it provides enough durability for a wide range of uses!
