On January 28th, 1986, at 11:39 AM, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members. The lead capsule communicator (CAPCOM) was former astronaut Col Fred Gregory. I was honored to interview Col Gregory as he describes what he experienced on that fateful day and his relationship with each of the crew members. In the aftermath of the Challenger disaster, the families of the crew came together, firmly committed to keeping the mission alive as a tribute to their loved ones. Through their collective efforts, they founded the Challenger Center for Space Science Education, with a national network of 33 Challenger Learning Centers. I filmed Col Gregory’s exclusive interview on location at the Challenger Learning Center Colorado in Colorado Springs. Dennis Stretar, Our Community Broadcasting Network, www.ocbn.online.
