I think the crucial step to define the position of the base of the armhole is the step that messed things when I followed along with Practical Guide to Patternmaking for Fashion Designers (Juniors, Misses' and Women). Connie Crawford's Patternmaking Made Easy took a different approach to find the position and my front armhole shape was better.
