Building the Ljungström Sail – DIY Sailmaking Challenges & Progress | 7m Trailer Yacht Build Progress continues on the Ljungström sail for my 23ft (7m) Paulownia-core trailer sailboat, using Contender Stormlite sailcloth. In this episode, I run into some real-world challenges: my Sailrite sewing machine breaks down, and I run out of sailcloth just as I’m about to start the corner patches—but Contender comes to the rescue! As the bi-radial sail grows with each new panel, the limited indoor space becomes a bigger obstacle—but I’m staying optimistic and adapting as I go. I also shift to a more conservative corner patch method, avoiding the tricky-to-sew radial patch technique... for now. You’ll see my sewing skills improve as I learn to better fine-tune the Sailrite machine. I’ve found the @SailriteDIY channel a fantastic resource—full of tips, inspiration, and great kit options for DIY sailmakers like me.
