(6 Apr 1994) Lt. Gen. Bertrand Guillaume de Lapresle, force commander of the U.N. Protection Force, and Yasushi Akashi, the U.N. representative to the former Yugoslavia, met in Pale on Wednesday (6/4) with Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his army commander Ratko Mladic. Discussions focussed on laying the ground rules for Bosnian Serb and the Muslim-led Bosnian government peace talks. Akashi told reporters the UN hoped to send a delegation to the besieged eastern Muslim enclave of Gorazde, to assess the situation first hand. Earlier, Lt. Gen. Michael Rose, the commander of U. N. troops in Bosnia Herzegovina was refused entry to Gorazde by Bosnian Serb authorities in Pale.
