The Lies We Tell Ourselves is a first person psychological adventure game with light horror elements and a focus on subtle storytelling and atmosphere. Vincent Arno is a young man who still conveniently lives with his parents: he has no expenses, no responsibilities and no ambition whatsoever to leave and make a life of his own. Having dropped out of high school at the age of 15, Vincent keeps on comfortably getting by with doing the bare minimum in the family business, while spending all his earnings on meaningless items and evenings with friends. Indifferent to the kind of person he has become, he blames his lack of accomplishments on anything but himself, but deep within he doesn't really care. And yet... Vincent sees himself as a good guy, unaware that doing the right thing takes way more than just not doing the wrong thing. One day, on the way home from his 27th birthday party, he suddenly finds himself trapped in a mysterious, twisted room. An unknown figure offers him a choice: take matters into his own hands or simply stay there, until death. KEY FEATURES A weird, rich story arc, full of symbolism and metaphor, but with enough subtlety to let players build their own interpretation and meaning: everything is there for a reason, although the reason might not be immediately clear. Mature and disturbing themes, but handled with respect and taste, rather than just for shock value. Puzzles and gameplay serving the story, not the other way around. No random cheap jumpscares, no frustrating or clunky mechanics. A walking sim? Not quite. Although the focus is on storytelling and atmosphere, the game will feature action sequences, fail states and even boss fights! The catch is, it won't be about shooting zombies, but overcoming danger using only cunning and environmental mechanics.
