Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome. I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be. _________________________________________________ Disclaimer: CPT operates at the intersection of theory and observation. Cognitive processes are notoriously hard to observe and measure, which is why many psychological frameworks—including MBTI and even elements of the Big Five—are based on inference rather than direct empirical measurement. With an MSc in Differential Psychology I am well equipped to frame CPT within the context of empirical literature as well as ensure the system does not conflict with extant findings. CPT has a wealth of qualitative evidence supporting its insights, but as with any other typology system, this does not make it empirically validated and it should be used more as a tool for personal growth rather than a ground truth. With mathematical operations of functions alongside a fluid, dynamic, and non-prescriptive approach to understanding personality, CPT does yet take the first step towards a form of typology that can be quantified. _________________________________________________ 00:00 - Introduction 01:40 - Myth Busting 03:02 - INFJ Cognitive Elements 05:40 - INFJ Cognitive Positions 09:28 - INFJ Cognitive Axes 11:23 - INFJ Cognitive Functions 16:14 - INFJ Dip Functions 20:52 - INFJ Subtypes 25:00 - INFJ Cognitive Networks 29:09 - INFJ Network Subtypes 33:00 - Wrap-up _________________________________________________ KEY Ni/Introverted Intuition - Broad & plethoric perception of internal world.
