Finding healthy patches of broadleaf grass on mid-depth flats is the first step. McKeon uses 2D sonar in conjunction with long drifts to locate grass patches while dragging a light 1/16-ounce jig and plastic behind the boat. When he finds some fish (usually around quality grass), Roberts marks the spot with a waypoint then fishes the area thoroughly using the transom trolling motor to maintain position.
