Wow. I just put the last tape up to check the quality after a few years away, and I’ve returned to find all these amazing comments. Firstly, let me apologise. I can see many of you wanted more and it must have looked like you were being ignored. I simply wasn't paying attention to this "spare" account! The good news? I have lots more tapes, and I’ll be posting them as I can. The Backstory: I’m 60 now, but I was just 17 when I recorded these. I had just started an apprenticeship as a Broadcast Engineer. It was poorly paid, but I made a point of spending £5 of my £60-a-week wages at the local Comet buying the best tapes I could—usually Chrome or Metal TDKs. Growing up on a South London estate, I was lucky that a mate’s dad was deep into the soul scene. He took us to the Jacksons at the Rainbow Theatre in Feb '79 (the one the BBC filmed). Seeing the wizardry of live TV gear at that show actually sparked my career in engineering. The Collection: I’ve transferred over 30 tapes so far. I’m going through them gradually to check the content—partly because some of my senior workmates back then used to "steal" my tapes and record a few choice words over the audio as a prank! What’s coming next: Robbie Vincent (Saturday Lunchtime, Radio London 94.9) Greg Edwards (Capital Radio) Pirate Radio (Invicta, Horizon, JFM) Live Concerts (Including Kool & The Gang from 1982) I’m now a collector of period Hi-Fi—boomboxes, reel-to-reels, and over 1,000 tapes. I still have as much love for the sound of Robbie, Greg, Froggy, and Chris as I did back then. Thanks for your indulgence and your patience. I promise there is more to come.
