Kirinyaga County residents received promising news regarding the revival of local road projects on February 2, 2026, when Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki inspected ongoing construction works on the long-awaited PI-Murinduko-Kiumbuini-Ndindiriku-Marurumo-Gategi-Gatuiri-Kiandegwa-Mutithi White Rose Road in Mwea Constituency. The visit, which drew Mwea Member of Parliament Mary Maingi, Members of County Assembly, and other local leaders, signalled a renewed government commitment to completing stalled infrastructure projects across the country. Addressing residents, Prof. Kindiki was emphatic that the days of abandoned construction sites are firmly behind the country, pointing to improved economic conditions since the COVID-19 era as the foundation for the current development momentum. He noted that the cost of fertiliser, petroleum, and foodstuffs has significantly improved, creating fiscal room for the government to fund large-scale projects without interruption. "This year, you are going to see a lot of development and transformation across the country. All roads that stalled since 2020 have been revived. We have paid all the contractors who had abandoned sites and are now back on site. Going forward, we will pay them on time because we have enough money to complete all the 6,000kms of ongoing roads and to commence other projects," he assured. During the inspection, the Deputy President urged the contractor to maintain momentum and deliver the completed road by the end of 2026 as scheduled. He also outlined government interventions targeting improved access to clean water, electricity, fresh produce markets, and youth employment opportunities. Taking a swipe at the opposition, Prof. Kindiki made clear his priorities lie firmly with delivering results for ordinary Kenyans. "Let us compete in terms of performance," he challenged, signalling that project delivery, not political rhetoric, defines his tenure. MP Mary Maingi echoed the Deputy President's sentiments, expressing gratitude for ongoing and completed projects in the constituency. She announced progress on a critical facility, stating, "We have started fixing the bridge to Our Lady of Lourdes Mwea Hospital," offering hope to patients and road users who have long struggled with the poor crossing. Maingi also raised a pressing concern from rice farmers in Mwea, calling for urgent attention to On Farm Roads whose deteriorating condition has hampered agricultural productivity in the region. Closing her address on a political note, the MP threw her full weight behind Prof. Kindiki's 2027 ambitions, declaring pointedly, "Those who want the DP's seat, it is not vacant, it belongs to Kindiki."
