Join me, Lap Siu—a Jarai speaker and cultural researcher—for a rare and heartfelt Zoom conversation with Thimothe Romam in Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia. Filmed in February 2025, this interview is my first time meeting a Jarai person from Cambodia, even after years of studying the community. Although my Jarai dialect (Cheo Reo) differs from the Jarai spoken in Cambodia, our shared heritage created an instant connection. With Thimothe’s ability to speak English, Vietnamese, and a Jarai dialect from Vietnam, we bridged languages and cultures to share stories across continents. What You’ll Learn in This Video Insights into the Jarai community in Ratanakiri: population, number of villages, farming traditions, and religious practices The languages spoken by the Jarai people of Cambodia Thimothe’s inspiring mission to preserve Jarai culture, songs, and stories How the Jarai Youth RTK Group uses Facebook and YouTube to share their heritage with the world The efforts of young Jarai leaders like Narith Klan, Soll Neak, and Sev Thy to document and celebrate their culture This "cross-cultural" conversation—conducted in Jarai, English, and Vietnamese—offers an authentic glimpse into a vibrant Indigenous culture that spans borders. 💛 If you enjoyed this video and found the content on this channel educational or meaningful, please consider supporting our work.
