The Republic of Moldova is a small Eastern European country situated between Ukraine and Romania. With a population of 3.55 million people, its LGBTQ+ community is only a tiny percentage of that. Not much is known about Moldova in general sense in broad masses, let alone its LGBTQ+ layer of society. Most LGBTQ+ people in Moldova are closeted and isolated from one another, out of fear, shame, and exposure to discrimination. There’s little visibility of queer community in Moldova, the peak of which is observed in country’s capital, Chișinău. The situation has been improving slowly but surely for the past decade, thanks to the endeavors of LGBTQ+ activists and Moldova’s only LGBTQ+ rights organization, “GENDERDOC-M”, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement. “Listen” is a project consisting of: 1 major film composed of the stories and experiences of three young queer people born and raised in Moldova; 3 expanded episodes with the protagonists; essays written by the crew and Moldovan queer contributors. Take a peek into the life of Moldovan LGBTQ+, starting with stories from Anna Donos, Paula Cerescu, and Andrei Colioglo.
