Manna Dey (born Prabodh Chandra Dey) was a legendary Indian playback singer and composer. He was born on May 1, 1919, in Kolkata, India and passed away on October 24, 2013, in Bangalore, India. Manna Dey's career spanned over five decades, during which he recorded more than 3,500 songs in multiple languages including Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Gujarati. He was trained in classical music by his uncle, the renowned musician Krishna Chandra Dey, and was known for his versatility in singing various genres of music, including bhajans, ghazals, and film songs. Some of Manna Dey's most popular songs include "Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen" from the movie "Waqt," "Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua" from the movie "Shree 420," and "Yeh Dosti" from the movie "Sholay." He was also the recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007, which is the highest honor in Indian cinema.
