Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, Colorado—just 30 miles east of Colorado Springs—has been frequented by humans for over 9,000 years. Early Native Americans used the colorful clay for their pottery and for ceremonial purposes, and they also used the narrow canyons to trap wild game like buffalo. This vibrant park is 750 acres in size with 4 miles of hiking trails.
