Today's in history On the 4th of August 1947, the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was established as the first political party in Gold Coast ( Ghana) by a group of intellectuals and affluent merchants. It was formed at Saltpond, situated in the central region of Ghana. The party's guiding motto was "self-government within the shortest possible time."
