As many of you know replacing the vq35hr oil gallery gaskets can be a very intimidating task to take on. This time while performing this procedure I am working on an engine that has been removed from a car and is on an engine stand where you can get a much better view of what the task entails. This video will show you in detail everything that you need to see to take on replacing yours with confidence while also displaying the amount of meticulousness that I feel is necessary when cleaning and prepping the parts for disassembly/reassembly. For those of you who have stumbled upon this video and are not sure why this is so important let me take a minute to explain why this should not be overlooked. The original oil gallery gaskets that were installed on the assembly line were all defective. It was not until after a large number of cars had already rolled off the assembly line that Nissan addressed the issue. The thin paper gaskets were failing and as a result they release oil/pressure into the timing cover behind the timing chain and as a result oil that was needed in other areas of the engine is now being released into an area where it is not needed. In time this can cause damage to the journals and bearings in the bottom end and the cylinder heads as well. Also as the condition develops the thin pieces of failed paper gaskets seem to find their way into the oil pan and very often will lodge themselves into the mouth of the oil pickup tube. Most owners never realize there is an issue until the problem becomes severe due to the fact that the oil being leaked is being leaking to another area inside the engine. Nissan's solution was a revised, metal reinforced, gasket set to replace them with which I will list the parts numbers for below.
