SOUNDBITE (English) Ndingi Mwana Nzeki, Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi: "If there is one body that has done wonderful things for the people in Isiolo, regardless of their faiths and practices, it is the Catholic church under the leadership of Bishop Luigi Locati who has been killed unfortunately. He came out to Kenya to develop that area. To assist the people who are living in very very difficult situations. He did this regardless of their faith or practices." 4. STORYLINE: A Roman Catholic bishop was shot to death near his church in northern Kenya on Thursday night, the Vatican Embassy in Nairobi said. Police investigating the killing of Bishop Luigi Locati said on Friday they are treating the case as one of attempted robbery. Bishop Locati, 76, was fatally wounded late Thursday as he was walking to a pastoral centre in Isiolo, in the country's north, where he was based, a priest at the embassy said. Locati was walking with a guard to his house from a dining hall for Catholic clergy in Isiolo, about 200 kilometres northeast of the capital, Nairobi, said police spokesman Jaspher Ombati. Three men are believed to have taken part in the attempted robbery. Locati was taken to a hospital in Isiolo, where he died about 90 minutes after the shooting, according to the priest. A man who was with the prelate was also wounded but his condition was not immediately known. Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi, Ndingi Mwana Nzeki said Locati had come to Kenya to help people living in difficult situations "regardless of their faith and practice." He said Locati "came out to Kenya to develop that area. To assist the people who are living in very very difficult situations." Locati was born in Vinzaglio, a village in northern Italy. He was ordained a priest in 1952.
