Have you ever wondered how we might calculate the ‘size’ of the future? How might we use exploratory engineering to determine what technologies are actually plausible in the future? And with the truly long-view in mind, are there specific things humanity ought to coordinate about? In this live-online Futures Seminar, Dr Anders Sandberg (alongside host August Liljenberg) will explore how we can subject the opacity of the future to rigorous analysis as well as how ‘grand’ this future could feasibly become. There will be an opportunity to direct questions towards Dr Sandberg during a Q&A session towards the end of the seminar. Dr Anders Sandberg holds a PhD in computational neuroscience from Stockholm University and is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford, where he works alongside other prominent futurists such as Toby Ord and Nick Bostrom. His research centres on estimating the capabilities and underlying science of future technologies, methods of reasoning about long-term futures, existential and global catastrophic risk, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), as well as societal and ethical issues surrounding human enhancement.” ------ The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS) is an independent, non-profit futures think tank and was founded in 1969 by Professor Thorkil Kristensen, former Danish Minister of Finance and Secretary-General of the OECD. CIFS works towards the betterment of society by leveraging multidisciplinary capabilities to equip and inspire individuals, organisations, decision-makers, and the public to act on the future today. The Institute aims to have an open and engaging global profile, be closely involved with partners, members, governments, academia, businesses, and the public. The Institute also desires to build futures literacy in society in a time when it has never been more important. Read more at https://cifs.dk/
