In an attempt to make a mark on the racing world, Ford collaborated with Lola Cars to create the Mark I. Completed in 1964, the car was based on the Lola-designed 'Mk6' and was unveiled as the Ford GT. The GT40 name was coined by a reporter who was astounded by its height, at a mere 40 inches from the ground.
