I wouldn't particularly recommend killing both El Gigante with guns as it's generally a waste of ammo. Using the lava pit to kill 1 of them does mean missing out on it's 15,000 PTAS drop, though (except in the GameCube version where a glitch allows you to still get that money anyway). If for whatever reason you'd like to kill both with weapons then this video shows one way of going about doing that. Both El Gigante have the same amount of health, each taking 22 Lvl 4 Firepower Semi-Auto Rifle shots & 2 Lvl 1 Firepower Broken Butterfly shots. The general strategy I use is to shoot each El Gigante in & around the head 9 times to bring him to his knees. I then shoot the plaga with the Semi 2 times & then with the Broken Butterfly once. He'll get back up & I do 1 more round of 9 Semis to get him down then finish with 2 more Semis & 1 BB. If you use only Semis then you'll waste a lot more ammo as you'll need to take him down to his knees a total of 3 times (1 shot with the Semi on the 3rd time will kill him). I recommend not using Shotgun Ammo as you'll need it all for the Novistador room that follows immediately after this one. Additional Note: There are 2 times that you can reload strategically. The first is when you're on top of the scaffolding. You can reload with enough time to grab the zip line, but even if you don't the shaking animation will break the reload animation so you can grab the zip line & your gun will still have been reloaded. The second time you can do it is when the El Gigante charges at you. You can use the QTE to break out of the reload animation.
