We can blog it! | Afrah Nasser | TEDxGöteborg

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. When Yemeni journalist Afrah Nasser tried to write about corruption, injustices and human rights violations in Yemen newspapers, she couldn’t find her message through. So she took things by her own hands, and started blogging about politics and used social media as a megaphone to bring the stories of the people of Yemen out to the world. Afrah’s struggle continues, now as a political refugee and she talks about how social media can be a very powerful instrument, so that solidarities can be established in order to create real change together. For the last four years, 29 year-old Yemeni journalist Afrah Nasser has been blogging about atrocities, human rights violations and other topics related to Yemen. Though the autocracy have tried to shut her down numerous times, she courageously continues to shed light on injustices and sufferings in Yemen, and is regarded as one of the Middle East’s most important voices of today.
