Today, saw the Chiltern Railway Mk3 and DVT sets bow out of service, these sets have been with Chiltern since 2010. Its almost hard to believe they've used these sets for 15/16 years. The Mk3s and DVTs will be replaced by the new Explorer services operated by Class 68s and Mk5s. To mark the end of the last loco hauled Mk3 services, Branch Line Society operated a Chiltern Railways Mk3 Farwell Tour. This tour would start from Banbury and run to Stourbridge Junction, it would then run from Stourbridge Junction - London Marylebone and finally London Marylebone back to Banbury. This tour was operated by 68013 'Peter Wreford-Bush' and 82309. We went out to see this tour, had to get to see one of these silver Chiltern Mk3 sets for the last time. We went to Rowley Regis to film it and filmed both the Banbury - Stourbridge Junction & Stourbridge Junction - London Marylebone legs of the tour through here. The first clip of the tour sees 68013 leading the train to Stourbridge Junction with the second shot sees 68013 propelling 82309 from Stourbridge Junction - London Marylebone. Decided to stay here for both of these runs rather than going to two different locations. On a side note, exporting this has been a pain. My usual laptop I use to do this kept freezing/crashing. I don't think it's quite powerful enough so I had another laptop and had no problems. So it must have been a more powerful computer to edit this thing. I think I'll have to use that laptop in future to edit larger videos filmed using this camcorder. No idea what will become of the Chiltern Mk3s or DVTs, I've heard these 68s will be going back to DRS. But I can only assume the Mk3s and DVTs will probably go into storage unless they find a new lease of life elsewhere. Farwell to the Chiltern Railways Mk3s.
