Let me know if you'd like to include a website link and I’ll help you weave that in! --- *What’s it like walking the Camino with your partner? Is it better to go solo or share the journey?* In this video, I dive into what it’s really like walking the Camino de Santiago with a life partner – in my case, my lovely wife Pat. Spoiler alert: it’s very different from walking alone! A subscriber asked whether walking with your wife or friend changes the Camino experience. The short answer? Yes, massively. But not necessarily in a bad way – it’s just… different. I talk through what I’ve learned over the years, especially from walking with Pat, and share some honest reflections (and even a few funny arguments we’ve had on the trail – looking at you, Santo Domingo!). One of the big things to consider is **goals and expectations**. Why are you walking the Camino? Is it a deep spiritual journey, a challenge, a break from the daily grind, or a foodie adventure? You and your walking buddy – partner, spouse, or best friend – might not be on the same page. For Pat and me, it turns out I’m completely obsessed with the Camino (I think about it daily), while she enjoys it… but could take it or leave it. We also dive into *fitness levels, accommodation preferences, food**, and how much "roughing it" each person is happy with. For example, I love the remote stretches like the Vía de la Plata – walking all day without seeing a soul and staying in tiny albergues. But that’s not quite Pat’s idea of fun. She prefers a private room and knowing there’s a nice meal and a comfy bed waiting. So now when we plan a Camino together, I build in **compromises* – some shorter days, some private rooms, a few restaurant highlights – and yes, the odd sneaky night in an albergue just to ease her into it! I also talk about *the emotional side* of walking together. You need to think about what happens if one of you gets injured, tired, or wants to stop. Do you keep going alone? Do you both take a break? It’s not just a physical challenge – it’s a test of patience, communication, and flexibility. But don’t get me wrong – walking the Camino together can be amazing. It builds memories, strengthens your bond, and gives you stories you’ll laugh about (eventually) for years. Just go into it with your eyes open. Be ready to **compromise, adjust**, and support each other – and you’ll both get so much more from it. Oh, and let me know in the comments: have you walked with a partner or close friend? Did it bring you closer, or did you need a break by the end? I’d love to hear your stories – good, bad, or hilarious!
