Today's journey IN THE STEPS OF THE ROMANOVS is to Peterhof's Alexandria Park. There, right on the coast of the Gulf of Finland once stood a beloved summer house of Russias's last imperial family: The Lower Dacha. Three youngest imperial children were born at the Dacha, but it always felt like coming home to all family members. Sadly, the Dacha did not survive: only its foundation and some ruins remain. among the ruins is a crucifix and memorial in the spot where Tsesarevich Alexei, the last Heir to the Russian throne, was born. We will tour around the area where the Dacha once stood, wander among its ruins, glimpsing into the past - to see rooms that these ruins once were - filled with children's laughter, sounds of running feet, warmth and love. We will meander down to the rocky beach, just outside the Dacha, where the four sisters and their little brother once played with their cousins. We will walk on the same rocks their feet once stepped on. According to Alexandria Park and Museum curators, there are plans to reconstruct the Dacha in the near future, in the exact spot it once stood.
