The museum moved here from its former site next to the Ohio State University in 1970.The Ohio History Center is a history museum and research center in Columbus, Ohio. It is the primary museum for Ohio's history, and is the headquarters, offices, and library of the Ohio History Connection. The building also houses Ohio's state archives, also managed by the Ohio History Connection. If you are interested in history or some of the history of Ohio. This is a great place to visit. The Museum is quite large. displays are on the first floor and share part of the second floor with the cafeteria. The third floor is home to the Ohio's state archives and library. There is so much to see in the museum. The center piece is a Mastodon found in Ohio. It was discovered in 1887 near the border of Clark and Champaign counties. One of my personal favorites was the display on the 1950s. Experience life in the 1950s by putting your feet up on the couch, playing a record, peeking in drawers and rolling in the grass in a full-size prefabricated Lustron home built inside the museum at the Ohio History Center. Expect to see items like a 1957 Chevy Bellaire, an Airstream trailer, Roy Rogers toys and decorations, a bomb shelter hatch, 1950s television news and programs, and a combination clothes and dishwasher! Stop by at the right time and you may get to meet a Lustron salesperson on the front lawn, a doctor making a house call or a mother making a cake in the kitchen. Another favorite of my visit. Was the Civil war display. the display contains many artifacts. Some are weapons. Two parts of this display stood out to me, The display of drums used by the drummer boys and the display of battle flags. I want to revisit the battle flags for a deeper look. There is quite a bit more to visit at the Center. including static displays on steam power engines. A horse drawn street car from Columbus, Private collections of glassware and furniture.
