The Secret Ingredient for Business - Mentors: Integrate a Mastermind Group

When you have a really great dish at a restaurant, sometimes you ask, “What’s the secret ingredient?” Well, the same goes for a great business. There’s at least one secret ingredient that is needed and that is to have MENTORS. In this video you’ll get the inside scoop on how I run a simple meeting with my Mastermind group, which is just one strategy I incorporate into my business to have mentors. Mentors help you look out for “blind spots” in your business so that you don’t get side-swiped by an event or by competition without proper planning. They have the experience or the ability to see your business from a different viewpoint which can be crucial when you are too busy just keeping up with the day-to-day to get a much needed strategic perspective. Mentors can also give you fresh ideas and evaluate your own ideas and help you brainstorm the effectiveness and viability of those ideas before you test them out in the marketplace. One strategy I use to incorporate mentors is to have a Mastermind group that I meet with monthly. Some mastermind groups, like the one I attend with other Property Managers, gives me a great networking opportunity with other people in my profession so that I can gain industry-specific insight. However, this mastermind group that I’m about to meet with has people from different industries. This gives me a broader perspective on finding solutions to the challenges I may be facing. During the meeting, I run it very strictly so that everybody has a chance to share one challenge they are going through in their business and we allow a few minutes for the other members to weigh in on their perspective. This group actually grew as I ran the meeting and we ended up having eight people in attendance which is larger than I’d like. In the future, I will be splitting the group into two tables so that the group size is limited to 6 and we can go deeper into each other’s business as well as share something positive that has recently happened as well because everybody benefits from hearing good news. I also like to get multiple things done at once so we eat lunch too! I find eating lunch keeps things informal and fun.
