To us, and hundreds of millions of others the world over, Gerry Rafferty was one of the greatest artists of his era. Every song we cover is challenging, but this song was particularly so for us all! We had to go up 3 semitones from the original key which posed difficulties playing the sax part which lost a lot of richness and weight for each note we went up. Izzy's voice was already at the bottom of her range so we couldn't go any lower. And Philip couldn't go any higher with the sax without it starting to sound like a toy. Philip learned how to make the sax growl for this song which helped with excitement... but we all wish the song were in the original key. This key is the best we could manage. Welcome to Sock Session 7! Behind the music: We recorded this Saturday 23 August 2025. As usual, we set up the cameras and started rolling, and ran through the song 6 times in a row, one after the other, until there was a unanimous vote on the final pass. (good thing too, because Philip didn't have any more air in him - this song is a tremendous lung workout!) We then added a number of things to the track including flute, percussion, some keyboard parts, some background vocals.
