“Ray Man” is the third single released from Snatam Kaur Live in Concert Volume 2. With the dulcet light-filled tones of Snatam’s voice, this poem that she sings honors the new year by setting an intention to bring our yoga and meditation practices beyond the mat and into our lives. “Ray Man” invokes the power of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, with the poem that he wrote that includes the concepts of speaking the truth, staying in one’s center, and coming from a place of kindness and love. Guru Gobind is known as a warrior poet, and his warrior energy shines through the courage it takes to bring our consciousness and awareness into day-to-day interactions. Partway through the track, the intensity of the music and percussion lift the energy, as the audience lovingly joins Snatam in chanting “Waaheguru,” a mantra of letting go of resistance to merger with the divine and bringing calm to the mind. One of six tracks on Snatam Kaur Live Volume 2, “Ray Man,” is available on Be Why Music. It features Ram Dass on piano, clarinet, and vocals, Grecco Buratto on guitar and vocals, and Sukhmani Rayat on calabash, and vocals. The song was recorded on October 11, 2019, at the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts.
