When Susan was a child she was raised with polar bears! Her father was a zoologist and a biologist specializing in bears and they actually had polar bears at their home. Now, as you know she has Black Bears and Syrian Brown Bears and Kodiak bears . Susan is probably one of only a very small handful of people in the WORLD that has actual in-depth and hands on experience with four different types of bear. As far as differences in personality is concerned she says: it is based more on each individual bear rather than the whole species. A lot depend on environment and up bringing. The more pleasant their lives are the more pleasant they are. The harsher their lives are the more resourceful they have to be. Black bear are more omnivorous more laidback with less aggressive hunting stills. Polar bears have a hard existence which require them to be more aggressive. The Brown bears are somewhere in the middle. Most of the bears that we have were raised by us from very young in a very loving and structured environment. They are all wonderful bears.
