After a some research we discovered that it was a friction lining. This protects the cast hitch, provides the grip on the tow ball and also correctly spaces the ball onto the hitch. After checking on YouTube we could see videos on changing friction pads but nothing on this simple topic so we filmed what we did and have shared for you to see.
