Redefining Women, Peace and Security | Dr. Happymon Jacob

Recognizing the multifaceted roles women play in contributing to both violence and peace is crucial. Traditional notions are exclusive, undemocratic, and narrow. Redefining these concepts is vital for inclusivity and democracy. Adding women to the mix without changing the substance and agenda is insufficient. The key is to alter the definitions that govern our understanding of these issues. Happymon Jacob is Associate Professor of Diplomacy and Disarmament at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is Founder and Honorary Director, Council for Strategic and Defense Research, New Delhi. Previously, he held teaching positions at the University of Jammu and Jamia Millia Islamia University; and research positions at the Centre for Air Power Studies, Delhi Policy Group, and Observer Research Foundation. WISCOMP (Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace) is a pioneering South Asian research and training initiative that foregrounds leadership of women in peace and security and promotes cultures of pluralism and coexistence in the region. The knowledge generated through research is disseminated by WISCOMP to civil society actors and educational institutions (schools, colleges and universities) through diverse methodologies that include training workshops, symposiums, roundtables, film festivals, installations, exhibitions, public lectures, curricular development and innovative pedagogy. Our channel offers some of these resources. To know more about WISCOMP’s work visit www.wiscomp.org or connect with us at [email protected] or +91-11-24648450.
