Crack cocaine Toronto mayor Rob Ford launches re-election campaign

Filling out his paper work for the October 27 election, he said with the cameras rolling that he was the best mayor Canada's largest city had ever had, and claimed he would be re-elected. Last year was scandal-ridden for Ford. Among other things, he admitted he once smoked crack while in a "drunken stupor", and had some of his powers removed by the city council. But rather than resign, he launched his re-election campaign on January 2 with the slogan "Ford More Years." He was the first candidate to register for the election, which takes place at the end of October, but politicians from both sides of the political spectrum can smell blood, and are expected to challenge Ford. A poll in November showed 42 per cent of Toronto voters approved of the job he has been doing, and 33 per cent said they would definitely vote for him. He won the last election on the back of tax cutting austerity campaign. Whether he will serve four more years remains to be seen. Report by Mark Morris.
