Unseen Struggles: Identifying Eating Disorders Beyond Stereotypes in the Medical Field | WS2024

While eating disorders come in ALL shapes and sizes, may people have a preconceived notion of what they look like. Unfortunately those notions are not limited to the general public. It also carries over into the medical community. Most doctors and nurses receive extremely limited training on eating disorders and therefore misdiagnose or altogether miss diagnosing eating disorders. This leaves the patients feeling unseen and uncared for. During this presentation we will look at ways that eating disorders present themselves that don't fit the "classic mold," and how we as providers can advocate for our patients going to medical appointments, and how we can help our patients prepare to advocate for themselves. ------------ Within Summit is brought to you by Within Health, a remote eating disorder treatment provider.
