In this richly illustrated talk, Carl Chapman introduces us to the wildlife that may be seen on the Halvergate Marshes in Norfolk during the winter months. The talk was recorded live while Carl was addressing an online audience as part of the Mill and the Marsh Folk project to restore Stracey Arms Drainage Mill. It was part of a series of events including guided wildlife walks on the marshes. We thank Carl for giving us permission to share his presentation online. The Halvergate Marshes are an area of approximately 10 square miles of grazing pasture arranged in a rough triangle between Acle, Reedham and Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. Much of the land is at, or below, sea level and water levels are carefully managed. Today the marshes are also noted as a haven for wildlife. 06:11 Chinese water deer 08:57 Brown hare 10:22 Otter 11:47 Little grebe 12:14 Great crested grebe 12:49 Cormorant (two sub-species) 15:37 Heron 15:57 Little egret and Great white egret 17:14 Mute swan 17:28 Whooper swan 18:30 Bewick swan 19:18 Greylag goose 19:59 Pink-footed goose 20:43 Egyptian goose 21:19 Brent goose 22:24 Mallard 22:52 Gadwall 23:27 Marsh harrier 24:33 Red kite 25:17 Buzzard and Rough-legged buzzard 27:59 Kestrel 28:53 Sparrowhawk 30:23 Moorhen and Coot 30:49 Lapwing 31:15 Golden plover 31:55 Oystercatcher 32:27 Curlew 33:19 Snipe 34:10 Jack snipe 35:17 Mediterranean gull 36:22 Herring gull 37:10 Black-headed gull 38:01 Common gull 38:32 Stock dove 39:15 Skylark 40:06 Meadow pipit 41:00 Pied wagtail 41:49 Stonechat 42:24 Cetti's warbler 43:03 Blackcap 43:41 Starling (plus cameo appearance from Pink-footed goose, admin error!) 44:46 Bluetit 45:21 Great tit 45:49 Bearded tit 46:14 Goldfinch
