Anne Bradstreet - Before The Birth of One Of Her Children || Poetry Reading

Anne Bradstreet's classic English literature poem Before the Birth of One of Her Children is a deeply emotional example of a woman's perspective in classic literature. In it, she describes her fear of death and begs her husband to love her and protect their children even after she dies. You can't really blame her, since dying in childbirth was a pretty common thing back before they knew that you should wash your hands and wear a mask to prevent infections. The more things change, the more they remain the same, I suppose. Anne is considered the first woman poet in the "New World," despite being English by birth and having her poems first published there, too. Regardless, her poetry reflected her reality, as opposed to more lofty, romantic verse.
