On this trip, we drive along the Qilu Scenic Mountain Road, crossing Yanzi Ridge, and head toward an ancient village hidden deep in a mountain valley, surrounded by rolling hills. Our journey begins in Wujing Town, located in Weifang, Shandong Province, China. Leaving the town behind, we follow Provincial Road S327 into the heart of the central Shandong mountains, where urban scenery slowly gives way to winding mountain roads and untouched landscapes. Once in the mountains, we turn onto Songshan No.1 Scenic Road, a premium mountain tourist road developed by Shandong Province. This route winds through low mountains, narrow valleys, limestone formations, and traditional villages, blending natural scenery with local culture along the way. As we drive on, the road climbs steadily along the slopes. The elevation increases, and the views gradually open up — forested hills on one side, deep valleys and seasonal streams on the other. Distant mountain ridges rise and fall in layers, making the drive itself part of the experience. Continuing south, a series of smooth S-shaped curves lead us over Yanzi Ridge, the mountainous boundary between Weifang and Zibo. This is one of the most dramatic sections of the route. After crossing the ridge, the road begins to descend naturally. The mountains grow steeper, the valleys deeper, and small villages appear scattered along the valley floor and hillsides. The journey slowly shifts from a scenic drive back into everyday rural life. Our destination is Dongdongyu Village, located deep in the southern mountains of Zibo. With a history of over 600 years, Dongdongyu is a classic mountain village tucked into a narrow valley. Stone walls and red-tiled houses are built into the slopes, following the natural shape of the land. Narrow village roads run alongside a small stream, lined with old houses and low stone walls. In winter, the surrounding mountains reveal clean, well-defined contours, adding depth to the landscape. This is not a tourist attraction, but a real, living village. You’ll often see locals walking along the road, small roadside stalls selling homemade food or mountain produce, and a pace of life that feels calm and unhurried. Hope you all enjoyed this trip.
