In this video, you'll take a ride on the lone Bus Rapid Transit line in Todos Santos, known as the Metrobús or Purple Line. Transit map: https://imgur.com/a/ADe16d8 Random fact: this is the 100th Todos Santos-related video I've uploaded. -- ABOUT THE ROUTE -- The Metrobús was created as part of a larger plan to revitalize the barrio of San Juan in southeastern Todos Santos. It runs from the Central Station in the north to San Juan in the south, where it terminates just north of the TS-2 expressway. The line also has an express option, bypassing several of the stations for faster transit between San Juan and Central Station. There are proposals to extend the Metrobús across the highway into the areas of Parkville and San Pablo, which lack rapid transit options. -- ABOUT THE STATIONS -- Central: Though quite far from both the Old Town and Downtown of Todos Santos, this open-air station nonetheless serves as the heart of its transit network. Purposely overbuilt for its grand opening in 1966, it originally served a single intercity line. Today, it serves 3 of the city's 4 urban rail lines, two suburban lines, the Metrobús and standard bus routes. It has a massive park and ride lot, often used by locals commuting to the southern parts of town. Royal Arena: This station only operates during events at the Royal Arena. Arena management notifies the city of event dates, and in return for BRT operation contributes a small amount of revenue (tied directly to station ridership) to the city's infrastructure fund. Hospital: The only rapid transit option within a 15-minute walk of the city's main Hospital, this station is the least-used on the line due to being somewhat isolated being between the Río Piedras and the TS-4 expressway, and there being more convenient local bus lines that stop at the hospital. Santa Clara: This elevated intermodal station connects the Metrobús to the Orange Line light rail, along with a couple local bus lines. It is directly accessible via a short footpath from the Buena Vista urbanización. San Juan corridor: The heart of the San Juan redevelopment, this 3-station length of BRT takes up the center of what was once an 8-lane avenue. Transit-oriented development polices have encouraged an eclectic bunch of highrises to spring up in the vicinity, with office and residential space on top and commercial space on the bottom floors; it's particularly known for its bars and restaurants which are popular with students at the University of Todos Santos as they are easily accessed without a car, much to the entertainment (and sometimes dismay) of the late-night bus drivers.
