KAIE KÕRB (born in 1961), one of the most outstanding dancers in Estonia of all times, was the prima ballerina of the Estonian National Opera from 1981 to 2005. She was highly appreciated both for her interpretation of classical roles such as Odette-Ottilie ('Swan Lake'), title roles in 'Cinderella', 'Giselle' and 'Raymonda', Aurora ('Sleeping Beauty') et al, as well as for more dramatic heroines as Carmen (by Bizet-Shchedrin), Cleopatra ('Antonius and Cleopatra' by Lazarev), Julie ('Miss Julie' produced by Birgit Cullberg) and Anna Karenina (by Shchedrin). Together with the troupes of Maya Plisetskaya and Vyacheslav Gordejev, Kaie has toured in many countries all over the world and attracted attention with her brilliant technique and great dramatic talent. In 2005 she finished her career at the Estonian National Opera and gave birth to two sons. In 2009 she surprisingly returned to stage in a dance drama "The Death Dance" staged by the most famous Estonian choreographer Mai Murdmaa. In 2010 Murdmaa created a new dance production specially dedicated to Kaie Kõrb - "Phaidra" (to the music of Britten and Xenakis). This video is recorded in July of 2010 at a concert in Tallinn Old Town Music House. Ms Kõrb is accompanied by outstanding Estonian musicians, the pianist PIIA PAEMURRU (born in 1962) and her husband, the cellist PEETER PAEMURRU (born in 1948).
