Saskatchewan Immune Globulin Optimization Program

Ledingham, Hematopathologist, Blood Transfusion Service, Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region Presentation Date: June 3, 2015 This 30 minute presentation is an overview of the new Saskatchewan Immune Globulin Optimization Program, including the Saskatchewan guidelines for use of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG), the physician ordering form, the “stop the line” process and IVIG dose calculator. The importance of appropriately dosing and selecting patients for IVIG therapy is discussed as well as the decision to gather data for the next year and create a Saskatchewan IVIG registry. With a Saskatchewan registry we will be able to identify patients currently receiving IVIG by indication, in case of a shortage. This presentation has been recorded so that it can be utilized as a nursing, laboratory, physician and patient education and training model regarding the importance of the new Saskatchewan Immune Globulin Optimization Program in Saskatchewan and the tools made available to improve patient safety.
