Mary of Modena was quite possibly the most unprepared woman ever to become Queen of England. The worst aspect of her naivety was she didn't even know where England was! Mary, like her predecessors, initially struggled in this United Kingdom, although in her eyes, it was more a broken one. Mary was born to Alfonso IV, Duke of Modena, in 1658, a small sleepy Italian town. From an early age, worship was essential to her. She planned to become a nun and join the Salesian order. But her father had other plans for his daughter, and it would also do Mary and her faith much better to serve overseas by becoming married to the future King of England, James II. The torch of Rome was now on its way to England. In this short history documentary, we look at the life of Mary of Modena, her relationships with the royal Stuarts family, the Glorious Revolution in 1688 when William of Orange would wear the crown.
