What are our rights? Are we breaking the law simply by living a life many would regard as natural? Are governments laws useful or political overreach These are some of the question I address this week while I put down a reclaimed tongue and groove floor inside our bus. I talk about John Locke and about the founding of the ideas around individual liberty on which modern democracy is founded on. I also talk about Ayn Rand, techno utopianism and Silicon Valley libertarianism. This feels particularly relevant as #elonmusk is currently dismantling government power from the inside. All of these ideas effect how we live, especially as we become #selfreliant and end up doing some of the jobs often done by trades people under government legislation. Living in a #TinyHouse strikes me as interesting as it is a way of people skirting government law. Simply by adding wheels to what is essentially a house, the home then falls under the remit of transportation not housing, and therefore many of the zoning and building laws don't apply in many areas in the world. John Locke talked about natural rights, one of which was property. These laws are the back bone of modern democracy and yet all of the various planning and building regulations run very much in the opposite direction to Locke's ideas.
