Hello folks, let me introduce ourselves. I am Melanie (behind the camera) and this is Stephanie. We rescue Hedgehogs. This is our 6th rescue as we're fairly new at this. It all started when a tiny little Hedgehog was seen wandering around by our back door. It was very cold outside, the hedgehog was quite small, skinny and covered in parasites. It was that moment we decided they needed help, so we brought them indoors intending on getting professional help. That's when we discovered that local vets don't treat hedgehogs and was swiftly dismissed. Worried for the little creature we didn't stop searching for help and eventually found a kind lady named Sandra. She has been rescuing hedgehogs a lot longer than we have and she gave us the right support. She brought us medicines and checked the hedgehog over. She told us the hedgehog was in a very bad way and might wouldn’t survive. A few days later just as she‘d predicted our 1st little rescue passed away, however they were in a very warm, safe environment when they passed and we were satisfied we had given the best care we could give for such a poorly little soul. It wasn’t long before we found another little hedgehog in need of the same care, she was in the same condition as the 1st one, but this time we were better prepared. We used our own expenses to buy a load of good quality food and a safe box to use as an enclosure, a plastic one so that it could be wiped down every day, keeping her home warm, dry and clean. This hedgehog survived and was released back into the wild. Soon enough we had 2 hedgehogs to take care of, 1 passed and 1 survived. November was around the time we rescued another hedgehog and she was also released in a safer location too. It has become quite a pattern that around November and March we are finding these hedgehogs needing our help. This brings us to hedgehog No.6. Stephanie weighed him as soon as he was brought inside, he weighed only 460g, totally covered in fleas, he has this strange bump on the back of his head (which is now believed to be an abscess) and some broken spikes. This is day 3 that he has been with us and has already put on 40g, which is wonderful. Stephanie does all of the work involved with taking care of the hedgehogs, I just take the images. When it was her birthday I bought her a beautiful necklace with a hedgehog pendant as an acknowledgment of all the effort she has put in taking care of the previous 5, she loves it. For as long as these little hedgehogs keep choosing us we will keep taking care of them. It feels more like our duty to do this now, also release day is incredibly rewarding. Thank you all so much for showing interest in our Video, it’s not something we have done before, so hopefully I will keep you updated on his progress. Also we can’t keep calling him, him. So please if you have any name suggestions then write these down in the comments and we‘ll draw a name out of the hat. All the best Melanie, Stephanie & family
