It is not traditional, but a new composition. There is a droning suling recorded separately in the background. The suling is played in gamelans throughout Bali, often in large ensembles called gong suling. The tuning does not correspond to the western system of temperament, but rather the Balinese system of intervals which has different values and norms. I got these instruments from a Balinese friend and teacher - I'm not sure where to get one online. If you find one and order it, beware, they could crack as Bali is very hot and humid and bamboo is susceptible to temperature and humidity changes. However, they are quite affordable, and mine got acclimated to Colorado - I have had them for almost a decade with no problem whatsoever. Tales of the Boatman is a mystical storytelling podcast.
