Should I bite the bullet and pay top dollar to get that sweet spot? Or pass, so later I can place for free... but maybe by that time there aren't any good spots left. The Pillars of the Earth came out after Caylus and before Agricola, when worker-placement was new and exciting but wasn't yet a defined genre. In this window, there were a number of creative variations on what would later become a pretty common and standard game mechanism.
